おとせによる寺田屋再建時期を考える資料がありました。
「仁礼景範航米日記」は1866年の第２次薩摩藩留学生のうち、アメリカに派遣された仁礼が長崎出発から西暦1868年10月28日に横浜に帰着し、その後京坂を経由して長崎から薩摩に出航するまでの間を記録した日記です。この中に寺田屋がでてきます。この情報は「寺田屋考」を読んでいただいた方から情報が寄せられました。この日記の翻刻は鹿児島県立短期大学の犬塚孝明先生によるもので、掲載誌は「鹿児島県立短期大学地域研究所 研究年報」第13号（1984）、第14号（1985）です。いずれも鹿児島県立短期大学のリポジトリでPDF公開されています。
帰国した仁礼は西暦10月29日に横浜を出航し、西暦11月1日に神戸に到着します。岩下万平が大坂にいるというので、京坂に行くことになり、さっそくその日のうちに大坂に到着しますが、日記はこの翌日西暦11月2日から旧暦記載となり、9月18日と記載されます。
この日の夕方5時半に伏見行きの船にのります。仁礼は機械式の時計をもっていたのでしょう。翌日の朝7時に寺田屋に宿をとります。
同十九日
八幡山少過シヨリ夜明ケ四方晴レ渡り、淀城ニテ日出タリ。七時伏見江着寺田ヤ江宿、八時当所江着御屋敷江差越神宮司半殿江面會彼ノ宿江到レリ。而後有村甲君所江差越面會ヲ得互ニ嘻シク十二時前ヨリ六時頃迠相咄、海江田處江致同道十時頃迠相待居候ヘトモ海君帰宿無之処被致帰宿候向後海君帰宿セリ。我最早寝テ居レリ。互二満悦不斜。
旧暦九月十九日
八幡山を少し過ぎたところで夜明け、四方は晴れ渡り、淀城のところで日の出となった。朝七時に伏見に着き、寺田屋で休息し八時にでて、当所（京都の宿舎）に着き、藩邸に出向いて神宮寺半に面会し、彼の宿舎へ行った。その後有村甲君の所へ行って面会し、互いに嬉しくて十二時前から夕方六時頃まで話した。海江田信義の所へ一緒にいって、十時頃まで待ったが、海江田君は帰ってこなかったので帰宿した。その後に海江田君は帰宅した。私は最早、寝ていた。お互いに満足すること格別である。
仁礼は夜行の船で朝7時頃に伏見に着いて寺田屋で休息し、8時に寺田屋をでて京都の宿舎に向かったようです。京都までは徒歩２時間あまりでいけるので、藩邸に行ってから有村のところに12時前に行くことは可能です。寺田屋に「宿」というのは一晩泊まったわけなく、朝食および夜行の疲れをとるために休息したことをさすのでしょう。船宿の本来の使われ方ですね。「八時当所着」というのは8時に寺田屋をでて京都の宿舎（当所）に着いたということだと思います。この日記を書いている場所が京都の宿舎なので、おもわず当所と書いたのでしょう。
このあと、９月25日まで京都に滞在して伏見から乗船して下坂します。滞在中の22日、鎌田十、有村甲と3人で加茂川べりを散歩し、小松帯刀邸（御花畑）で西洋料理を食べさせてもらっています。
旧暦9月8日に明治と改元されています。この慶応から明治へと移り変わるこの時期に寺田屋は再建されています。正月3日に被災して、この９月まで９ヶ月間しかないので、焼け残って使えるものは使って迅速に再建したと考えるのが妥当と思います。
