田中光顕の回顧 大正７年５月７日 （『史実参照・木戸松菊公逸話』より）
私共は木戸公を護衛して上関に至り、船中で慶応二年春を迎へ、大阪に着くと、薩摩邸からか、船宿かは判然しないが、案内に来た。
●木戸一行は諸隊から品川弥二郎、三好軍太郎、早川渡、土佐浪士田中謙介、薩摩藩士黒田了介らで、彼らは木戸の護衛としての役割を帯びていた。木戸が公式の客であったなら、間違いなく薩摩藩邸からとわかる形で迎えられただろうが、そうではなかった。
そして、薩州の御座船で、淀を遡つて、小松帯刀が借りたる近衛家の別荘に入つたやうに思ふのである。
●京都に遡る船は薩摩藩の御座船であったという。木戸は、四日に大坂に着いて、八日の夜明け前に伏見についている。御座船というのは「畿内河川交通史研究」（日野照正 吉川弘文館 1986）によると客室などの居住設備をもった大型船である。一般人がチャーターできるものもあったが、各大名家は専用の御座船を所有していた。「薩州の御座船」とあるので、薩摩藩の船印を掲げた所有船だったと思われる。近衛家の別荘というのは「御花畑」のことである。おそらく21日の伏見からの下坂の時も同様な屋形船が用意されただろう。

御話の如く、木戸公は京都の薩州邸に数十日も滞留されて、薩藩士と時事の談議はしても、両藩の提携に関しては不言不語であった。ところが、坂本龍馬が来たつて、協定のことを促かした為め、遂に六ヶ條の盟約が成立したのである。が、之を今考ふるに、隆盛は一且約諾したら、徹底的にやるが、事に臨みて最初は容易に決しかぬる人であるから、独断を躊躇して攻守同盟を明言しなかつたと思はる。
●このあたりの記述は「自叙」と重なる。田中は西郷の最初の態度を「容易に決しかぬる人」に因をもとめる一方、約諾後の六箇条は攻守同盟であるという認識をしていた。
しかし、文久三年に長州藩は薩藩の汽船を砲撃し、元治元年蛤御門の変には、互に之と干戈を交へた。其の仇怨があるから、壮士の輦には、長州の諸隊と同じく議論もあったらふから、隆盛決断の苦慮は察知せらるゝのである。公が隆盛と薩長藩提携の盟約を議決せられた後、私も豊瑞丸に同乗して大阪から出帆した。其の船中で、奈良原繁が暴言を発したが、公は忿怒の顔色なく、従容としてをられたことも記憶して居る。
●薩摩藩内部にも「壮士の輩には、長州の諸隊と同じく議論もあったろう」と分裂が存在していたことを感じてる。その一例として奈良原繁の暴言をあげている。このような態度の奈良原が同席した１月18日の国事会談では、六箇条があらあらでも成立することはなかっただろう。田中はこの国事会談に出席していたわけではないが、奈良原の態度からそのことを感じたのだろう。
