京都リーガロイヤルホテル東北から撮影 このホテルの敷地が屯所敷地にあたる
非常に質の高い論考を掲載されている京都龍馬会会報『近時新聞』に4月以来、いわゆる新選組「不動堂村」屯所の位置についての論考が連続して掲載されました。その結果、長年研究家諸氏を悩ませてきた位置と規模がほぼ完全に確定されました。
おおきなきっかけは、西本願寺文書中に、新選組新屯所として提供された土地が西九条村領内にあることが明記されていたことでした。最終的に本願寺文書から700両でもって現在の京都リーガロイヤルホテル敷地にあたる、当時は西九条村「松明田」を西本願寺が新屯所用地として買収した明解な文書が確認されたことで確定しました。
結果的に2003年に建立された碑の位置が「此の付近」ではなく、正しく「当該地」の一角であったことになりました。
